Those derided by critics as asset-stripping 'casino capitalists'
could soon find themselves reigned in by the Treasury, writes Terry

AS FACELESS men go, those working in the private equity industry
have made quite a name for themselves, though not for all the right
reasons.
Among those to emerge last week from the dark recesses of the
sector was Peter Linthwaite, chief executive of the British Private
Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA), who on Tuesday faced a
grilling from MPs on the treasury select committee which is
investigating the sector. Two days later he resigned.
