Article: Signs Growing of a Split Between Cambodia, Vietnam;Leaders Differ Over Proposal in Peace Talks That Phnom Penh Share Power With Resistance Forces

As diplomats redouble their efforts to secure a peaceful settlement to the decade-long conflict in Cambodia, there are increasing signs of a rift between Vietnam's leaders and the communist rulers they installed in Phnom Penh.

Diplomats here and other analysts who closely monitor events in Indochina say the differences, revealed in recent public statements, appear to stem from the question of how far the Cambodian government should go in making concessions to the three resistance forces backed by the West and by China.

Observers say Hanoi now appears willing to accept an internationally backed compromise agreement, while the Phnom Penh regime seems to be taking a harder line.
