THE gap between house prices in Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland
is widening by more than 20 per cent a year, according to the latest
survey of the property market by the Bank of Scotland.
House values across Scotland showed an annual increase of 8.3 per
cent - the lowest rise found in any part of Great Britain. The
average cost of a home north of the border is now GBP 66,805,
compared to the UK average of GBP 101,164.
But in Edinburgh, prices have soared by a massive 32 per cent in
just 12 months, according to the mortgage lender's Scottish House
Price Index. The city average is now GBP 123,450 - almost double the
average for the rest of Scotland.
