Spend some time in a little used room and you make certain
discoveries, as one reader recently found out. "We were sitting next
to the Christmas tree one evening when I realized how uncomfortable
the living room is in the winter," she wrote.
The letter went on to list the all too familiar problems
associated with a turn-of-the-century house: drafty rooms, uneven
heating, etc.
Despite all the attention given energy conservation over the
years, including passive solar techniques and new products, windows
