DOZENS of patients are "trapped" in Scotland's most secure prison
because there is nowhere else to put them, the chairman of the State
Hospital at Carstairs has admitted.
Gordon Craig told The Scotsman that one in six of Carstairs' 240
patients are ready for immediate transfer to lower- category
institutions but cannot be moved due to an acute lack of alternative
facilities.
It is understood psychiatric staff have raised concerns over the
patients in question, many of them regarded as Scotland's most
dangerous mentally ill criminals.
Mr Craig said : "The hard truth is a lot more patients could leave
