When Mike Ridley was traded to the Washington Capitals, he took
the change of scene harder than most. He did not eat for two days
and lost five pounds.
Ridley has put most of the weight back on and feels more
comfortable in a Washington uniform. However, unless someone has a
change of heart, he may suffer a far greater loss in his wallet.
Last year, as a free-agent rookie out of the University of
Manitoba, Ridley signed a three-year contract with the New York
Rangers at a minimal figure, believed to be about $80,000 a year.
After he led the Rangers in scoring and was a key factor in their
playoff march past Philadelphia and Washington, Ridley, through agent
