IN ABOUT two months' time, Britain could well be led into war
against Iraq by an administration which can't seem to arrange the
purchase of two flats without drowning itself in a sea of spin.
As Downing Street never tires of saying, nothing illegal has
happened in the so-called "Cheriegate" affair. No code of conduct has
been broken. Which makes it all the more staggering that such a mess
has been allowed to develop. Something which is perfectly legal has
managed to be turned into a farce which has exploded in the face of
the government. And these are the people who are preparing to handle
an armed conflict.
