Article: Paul A. Schwarz, Research Institute President, Dies

Paul A. Schwarz, 56, the president and chief executive officer of the American Institutes for Research, died of cancer Jan. 13 at his home in Falls Church.

Dr. Schwarz was born in Vienna. He came to the United States in 1939 and settled in Pittsburgh. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also earned a master's degree in mathematics and a doctorate in psychology.

He joined the AIFR in 1952 in Pittsburgh as a research assistant. He moved to the Washington area in 1970 when the organization relocated its headquarters here.
