A man in his nightgown stood on a pile of rubble tonight where,
little more than an hour before, a second-story bedroom had been.
Now, after a missile had slammed into his neighborhood here, the
man searched left and right atop the rubble, where only one wall of
the room remained. Amid the glare of floodlights and the wail of
sirens, he was unable to find what, or whom, he was looking for-and
it was driving him to pound his face with both hands. Neighbors
sobbed as they watched.
Tonight's missile attack on a southern neighborhood of Baghdad
brought new tragedy to families here in the latest round of what is
called the "war of the cities." Two weeks after Iran launched a
ground offensive ...
