Article: PG Tips chimps top TV advert poll

THE old adage decrees that if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys - and while they may be one rung up the evolutionary ladder, such rations and the odd cup of tea have kept the nation's favourite primates at the top of the advertising tree.

Crashing through disastrous house removals, taking to bikes in the Tour de France and capping their calamities with a hot cuppa, the PG Tips chimps have been named Britain's favourite advertising characters.

They saw off other marketing icons, including the Milky Bar Kid, the Tetley Tea Folk and JR Hartley, the fly-fishing author who spent more time with his nose in the Yellow Pages than perched on a river bank.
