Later this month, in rapid succession, Scotland will welcome two
of the biggest names in popular music. The stadium shows are sell-
outs - returns only. On local radio, the airheads of the airwaves
will dedicate entire days to the megastars ("Here's 'Rock DJ' from
your favourite rock DJ - comin at ya!"). The tartan tabloids will
camp out at their hotels and bribe doormen for gossip about post-gig
bacchanalia involving kiss 'n' tell groupies. ("He put all my other
men in the Shady.") For Eminem, it will be, Yo, Glasgow! Four days
later, Robbie Williams will tell Edinburgh that, really, they've been
