EDINBURGH rugby has lost one of its greatest servants with the death of Bernie Lodge. Born within the shadow of the stand at Cardiff Arms Park, it was only fitting that he should have been a passionate player and supporter of the game of rugby football.

Following his education at Aberdare Primary and Canton High School in Cardiff, he was briefly an apprentice surveyor before deciding to join the Inland Revenue.
