A STALKING-horse candidate will challenge John Swinney in
September for the leadership of the Scottish National Party, it
emerged last night.
Bill Wilson, an SNP activist, stands no chance of winning, but his
decision could open up a genuine leadership battle if he secures
enough votes to damage Mr Swinney.
It is understood that Dr Wilson has the support of some of the
left-wingers in the party, who have become frustrated at the lack of
success achieved under Mr Swinney's leadership and the more moderate
approach to politics which he has adopted.
