Approximately 75 percent of the saturated fat in the American
diet comes from the following foods: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, meat
loaf, whole milk and whole milk beverages, 2 percent milk, cheeses
(excluding cottage cheese), beef steaks and roasts, hot dogs, ham,
luncheon meats, sausage, doughnuts, cookies, cakes, pork (including
chops and roasts), butter, margarine, crackers, ice cream, frozen
desserts, mayonnaise, salad dressings, french fries, fried potatoes,
salty snacks, bacon and nondairy coffee creamers.
All meats-fish, poultry and red meats-contain approximately equal
amounts of cholesterol, about 15 to 25 mg. per ounce. The difference
is the amount of saturated fat they contain. ...
