Article: Attacks get personal as SNP battle heats up

THE battle lines were drawn yesterday in the increasingly acrimonious contest for the leadership of the Scottish National Party, as allies of both contenders launched personal attacks on their rivals.

Bill Wilson, an Edinburgh activist, is standing against John Swinney, the current party leader, for the leadership at the party conference in September.

Dr Wilson has almost no chance of success, but his decision to stand "for the grass roots" has sparked a bitter bout of bloodletting in the party over who should lead the SNP and where it should go.
