SO, IN the week of the 40th anniversary of his assassination, who
really did kill President John F Kennedy? And why does it still
matter?
Well, it matters for all kinds of reasons - not least in an
attempt to establish historical truth and accuracy. Above all, it
matters because the Kennedy assassination began the great slide
within American culture towards belief in nutty conspiracy theories
which still dog the US today.
In the case of Kennedy, I have been assured by various Americans
at various times that the 35th president of the United States was
murdered by the Russians, the Cubans, the CIA, the FBI, and, of
course, the favoured nutty theory of the film-maker Oliver Stone -
