Article: Sinn Fein shrugs off Paisley's call for sanctions over IRA kidnap attempt

SINN Fein was last night fighting off demands that it should be stripped of its political allowances and privileges as a punishment for ongoing IRA activity.

The Democratic Unionist Party also called for the review of the Good Friday Agreement to go on, but without Sinn Fein.

Unionist parties in Northern Ireland are angry that the government has failed to impose sanctions on Sinn Fein over the attempted kidnapping of a dissident republican by the IRA in Belfast.

David Trimble, the Ulster Unionist leader, had threatened to lead his party out of the review, but yesterday failed to follow through - and drew the scorn of Ian Paisley, the DUP leader.
