INVENTOR James Dyson yesterday unveiled his new big idea: a vacuum
cleaner with a ball device remarkably similar to the one fitted to
the innovative plastic wheelbarrow he created 30 years ago.
The multi-millionaire designer, whose futuristic-looking household
devices are now the biggest-selling in Europe and the United States,
said the ball would make the cleaner more flexible and easier to
manoeuvre around furniture and other obstacles.
"The Ball" is said to be the result of GBP 50 million and three
years' work by about 350 scientists and engineers at Dyson's research
and development centre in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. Dyson claims it is
