TOM Smith explained last night why he decided to retire from international rugby after this year's Six Nations Championship.

As revealed by The Scotsman just under two months ago, Smith has played his last game for Scotland after eight years as a rock of the national team, during which period he won 61 caps. Scotland's most- capped prop of all time told his international team-mates after the Twickenham defeat that he had called it a day.
