THE Cannes Film Festival has the Palme D'or, Venice the Golden
Lion and Berlin the Golden Bear.
Now industry experts are calling for the Edinburgh International
Film Festival (EIFF) to have a major prize of its own.
The director of the Cambridge Film Festival, ranked the third UK
festival after Edinburgh and London, made the case yesterday that at
least one British festival should join the international A-list.
Edinburgh's long history and reputation made it the natural
candidate, he said.
The Edinburgh festival opens tomorrow night with the red-carpet
premiere of Wah-Wah, a major new UK film.
