Article: Alexandria Advances Ordinance Targeting Pit Bull Terriers

The Alexandria City Council, in response to the growing number of pit bull terrier dog attacks in the city over the last year, has given preliminary approval to an ordinance that would make it illegal to own a vicious or destructive animal.

"From February 1986 to the present there have been five pit bull attacks in Alexandria," said Christine Mills, acting assistant director of the city's animal shelter. "Previous to those attacks I don't remember ever hearing of one by a pit bull," said Mills.
