THE Borders used Hogmanay 2005 to underline their status as one of
the Celtic League's most improved sides, a rousing derby win over
Glasgow taking the perennial basement boys into the new year among
the top five for the first time.
There was not a lot between the sides at Netherdale and the
overall standard was not good enough to worry Celtic League title
contenders, but there were genuine signs of hope for the hosts.
Whereas the Borders attacked the breakdown with aggression and took
their chances - an early try and the kicking of Charlie Hore, the
centre, were crucial - Glasgow were subdued and squandered a good
number of promising attacks in and around the home ...
