Edward W. Brice Dies;
Retired HEW Official
Edward W. Brice, 70, a retired deputy assistant secretary of
Health, Education and Welfare and a former Foreign Service officer
who was an authority on adult education and illiteracy programs, died
Feb. 19 at the Manor Care nursing home in Wheaton after a series of
strokes.
Dr. Brice began his government career in 1951 as a public
information officer at the U.S. Embassy in Liberia. From 1952 to
1956, he was head of the embassy's education division. He then spent
two years in Nepal, where he was chief education adviser to that
country's government.
