Article: GBP 25.1bn mortgage lending sets record for April

MORTGAGE lending last month produced the highest figure for April since records began, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML).

In a month when the number of working days was shortened because of Easter, gross lending totalled GBP 25.1 billion, 16 per cent higher than in the same month last year. It also marked six months of record lending figures.

But the figure was 12 per cent lower than March's return, when lending soared to a record GBP 28.4bn.

CML said the lower figure could be the result of there being fewer working days in April because of the late holiday, saying there had been just 23 business days during the month, the fewest possible, compared with 27 during March, ...
