MORTGAGE lending remained robust last month as the housing
market's summer resurgence showed little sign of cooling, figures
showed yesterday.
The British Bankers' Association (BBA) said net mortgage lending
in July rose by GBP 5.7 billion, up on June's rise of GBP 5.6bn and
above the average GBP 5.3bn rise over the last six months.
Separate figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said
gross mortgage lending reached GBP 30.4bn in July - the strongest
July on record. June was also a monthly record.
Lending in July was 6 per cent below the GBP 32.4bn of lending in
