THE Edinburgh International Film Festival is considering moving from its traditional August date, The Scotsman can reveal.

In her first interview since taking up her post, the festival's new director Hannah McGill revealed she was being "buffeted with arguments" over a move.

Supporters of a change cite the pressure in Edinburgh in August, when hotels and restaurants are swamped by those attending the city's eight other festivals.

Others believe that rather than the film festival being complemented by the annual arts jamboree, it is now being overshadowed by rivals and should move to a new time slot and be allowed to stand on its own.
