SAINSBURY shares have again continued to rise on City rumours that
Mark & Spencer has been in talks with a Qatari-backed fund to launch
a joint bid for the supermarket chain.
Despite some sources suggesting the story was more red herring
than anything else, the company's shares enjoyed another good day,
rising 1.7 per cent to 512.75p.
Weekend newspaper reports said M&S chief executive Stuart Rose has
had talks with Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim bin Jaber al Thani, chief
executive of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), which heads up the
Delta Two fund.
Sources close to M&S, however, have dismissed the reports of the
joint takeover.
