The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved plans last night
for the Reston Town Center, a 343-acre project designed as the
capstone for one of the nation's largest planned communities and a
major new "downtown" for western Fairfax County.
With shops, restaurants, office buildings, two large hotels, an
art gallery and a movie theater, the Town Center is projected to have
about half as much commercial space as the Tysons Corner area by the
time it is completed a decade from now. The office space alone could
eventually total more than 7 million square feet.
Among the tenants planning to occupy the new buildings is the
