Article: Hay fever doubles risk of lower exam mark

CHILDREN who suffer from hay fever are twice as likely to drop a grade between their mock and final exams compared with youngsters without the condition, a study revealed yesterday.

Researchers at Edinburgh University and Imperial College London followed more than 1,800 students taking exams in maths, English and science.

They found that having hay fever made a significant difference to exam performance, especially if students were taking treatments which made them drowsy.

It is generally expected that most students will achieve their predicted grades, and that any drop in grade is unexpected.
