When Jo Coveny first laid eyes upon the Chippendale-style sofa
that these days graces her Kalorama living room, it was upside down
on the grassy shoulder of a highway.
Bringing her station wagon to a screeching halt, Coveny, an
interior designer, stopped just long enough to load her find into the
trunk. Triumphant, she hauled it back to the Scarsdale, N.Y., Tudor
that she and husband Terry called home at the time.
"I couldn't resist," she says. "When I got close enough to check
the sofa out, I realized the legs were Chinese Chippendale."
