Article: Heart disease is the bigger killer but women more scared of breast cancer

SCOTTISH women are more terrified of breast cancer than any other illness despite being more likely to die from heart disease and strokes, research revealed yesterday.

A survey by charity Breast Cancer Campaign found the disease was the biggest fear for 44 per cent of women in Scotland, despite the fact it is now one of the most treatable cancers.

Experts said that the fear of breast cancer was deeply embedded in people's minds and would probably remain a major concern well into the future.

The Ipsos Mori poll of 1,000 women across the UK found that after breast cancer, dementia - including Alzheimer's disease - was the biggest health fear among 43 per cent of Scottish women.
