Article: Georgetown University to Shut Down Dental School

Georgetown University dental school officials announced to students and faculty members yesterday that the 86-year-old school would be phased out over the next three years because of financial difficulties.

The school has 600 students. This year's freshman class would complete the four-year dental program, according to dental students.

The university's board of directors has grappled with the decision of how to cope with the school's financial problems for about a year, and in recent months school officials have repeatedly told students that rumors that the school would close were unfounded.
