College basketball coaches slightly favor moving the three-point
shot line out another nine inches, to the distance used in the
Olympics, but the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee is likely to retain
the current distance, men's rules editor Ed Steitz said today.
In another development, Eddie Sutton, incoming president of the
National Association of Basketball Coaches, said his group wants to
reverse recent NCAA cost-cutting moves, and wants to move the annual
NCAA convention from January to a later date so basketball coaches
can participate.
The rules committee put in the three-point shot this season-at 21
feet from the backboard and 19-9 from the center of the
