BLOSSOMS AND BANDS, grand masters and a grand ball, parades and
princesses, Noh and, yes, even an animated film about a frog are
among the festivities of the National Cherry Blossom Festival and the
new Japan Festival.
The annual Cherry Blossom festival officially opens Sunday
afternoon with the lighting of the Japanese Stone Lantern at the
Tidal Basin. It will continue in a swirl of by-then-dying blossoms
and activities through the parade of the festival queen and
princesses, bands, floats and drill teams next Saturday (April 11).
The Cherry Blossom queen will be chosen from the 55 princesses
(including one from Japan) at the grand ball next Friday (April 10).
