WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Efforts to eradicate global hunger and poverty should be a vital part of U.S. national security and foreign policy in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, agreed senior policymakers, legislators, and lobbyists taking part in a special symposium on development and foreign aid policy convened by Resources for the Future (RFF).

"We still live in a world in which 800 million people are malnourished," Undersecretary of State Alan Larson told the symposium, adding that the Bush Administration is aware that poverty and hunger are breeding grounds for terrorism.
