Article: HHS Awards Grants Nationwide to Support Abstinence Education, Services to Teens

WASHINGTON, July 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson today announced 95 new grants totaling more than $27.7 million to help communities develop and implement abstinence education programs for young people ages 12 to 18.

"Abstinence education programs create an environment within communities that supports teens in their decision to remain abstinent until marriage," Thompson said. "These grants will help communities develop programs that give teens the confidence and self-esteem to make good choices for themselves and their futures."
