With the sudden death Monday of Hillsboro Postmaster Charlotte
James, the 125-resident town is left with no post office and no town
hall.
James, who died of viral meningitis, had served in the position
for more than 10 years. She contracted with the U.S. Postal Service
to run the post office from the red wooden building where she lived
and allowed the Town Council to hold its meetings in it once a month.
Since Monday, residents have been driving to Purcellville to pick
up their mail. At a Town Council meeting Monday, held in Mayor
Alexandra Spaith's house, the council said it hoped an interested
resident would volunteer to negotiate with the Postal Service to keep
a post office in ...
