Article: American Jewish Committee Alarmed at President Bush's Charitable Choice Order

NEW YORK, Dec. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The American Jewish Committee today voiced alarm at an executive order signed by President Bush that, by executive fiat, enacts key pieces of his "faith-based initiative," including provisions that allow recipients of federal funds "to take their faith into account" in their hiring for government sponsored programs. The faith-based or "charitable choice" initiative funnels government funds to churches, synagogues and other pervasively religious institutions that are unable to separate their spiritual ministry from their provision of social services.
