Article: Blue Cross and Blue Shield System-wide Enrollment Reaches 22-Year High: Financial Results Enhance Quality and Security of Blue Plans

CHICAGO, May 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) announced today that total enrollment in the 42 independent Blue Plans across the country reached 85.3 million at the end of 2002, up from 82.6 million in 2001. Today, nearly one-in- three Americans is covered by a Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan.

The strong enrollment growth of 2.7 million Blue Plan members in 2002 follows record growth of 5.2 million new members in 2000 and 2.5 million in 2001. It marks the eighth consecutive year that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield System has recorded enrollment growth.
