CHICAGO, Aug. 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A call to investigate the
unprovoked beating of seven inmates at Cook County Jail by guards and
supervisors on July 27, 2003 was sent to Cook County State's Attorney
Richard Devine today from legal organizations and community groups,
including the MacArthur Justice Center, Amnesty International and the
Chicago Council of Lawyers. These groups have advocated in the past
on behalf of Cook County prisoners over similar allegations.
On the evening of Sunday, July 27, according to the letter, a
group of officers set upon the seven inmates without provocation,
pulling some from their cells, hitting and kicking them even after
