In a recent nationwide essay contest, high school students
identified environmental issues as the leading challenges confronting
the country in the next few years. In particular, they singled out
nuclear and toxic waste disposal, water pollution and acid rain as
major problems to be solved.
As members of a generation that will have to live in a world
shaped by decisions of today's leaders, where do you place
environmental issues in your concerns for the future?
Today's environment will definitely have an effect on the next
generations to come. I feel that environmental issues should be
placed before foreign affairs, hungry children, and the homeless.
