The message was relayed quickly to Rick Mahorn, the 6-foot-10
Detroit Pistons forward who had just finished a most admirable
defensive job against 6-10 Washington Bullets center Moses Malone.
An irritated Malone, after missing 14 of 17 shots in the Bullets'
106-92 NBA playoff loss Friday night, had said with authority: "No
6-10 man alive can stop me."
Over in the Detroit dressing room, Mahorn wouldn't be drawn into
a battle of words. "He's right," Mahorn said. "I'm not going to joke
with you. I can't stop Moses, but I can get a lot of help."
Truth be told, Mahorn didn't get that much help Friday night.
