Sir Rudolf Bing, the former New York opera impresario whose
assets are frozen by U.S. courts, has moved to northwest England with
his wife in search of a "peaceful and quiet life," Lady Bing said in
an interview today.
Bing, 85, whose mental abilities are said to be impaired by
Alzheimer's disease, sat quietly as his 47-year-old wife said she
hoped for a resolution of the legal tangle over his finances in the
United States.
Reuter news service reported that welfare workers today visited
the boardinghouse where the Bings have been living for the past two
weeks to check whether they qualify as homeless persons and require
public aid.
