WASHINGTON, April 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- According to the
Philadelphia Inquirer, the FBI has opened a criminal investigation
into Al Sharpton's fundraising for his 2004 presidential campaign.
Incriminating evidence reportedly was obtained during a wiretap of
Detroit businessman LeVan Hawkins in an unrelated corruption
investigation, centered in Philadelphia.
On Feb. 2, 2004, the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) filed
a formal Complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against
Sharpton and Hawkins detailing violations of election law that are
closely related to the allegations now being made in the media. --
