WHY: Shaquille O'Neal is a major supporter of law enforcement and
has spoken of plans to embark on a career in law enforcement after
basketball.
O'Neal's visit will occur just hours before the National Law
Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) holds its annual
Candlelight Vigil honoring all law enforcement officers who have died
in the line of duty. This includes the 153 officers who died during
2004 and the more than 17,000 who have died since the first recorded
line of duty death in 1792.
