Most people, when they consider Lake Michigan, the vast body of
water at Chicago's doorstep, think of fishing for lake trout and
coho, people-watching at Oak Street Beach and maybe taking a brief
dip in the brisk water.
A few of us think only of boardsailing, of planting our feet on
our modified surfboards with six-meter sails attached, of catching
the wind and taking off on the clear blue-green lake, reveling in the
speed and the slap of the waves and the magnificent view of Chicago's
skyline. Conspiratorily, we call each other at the first hint of a
good wind. "How soon can you get out of work?" we ask in eager
voices. "Meet you at the lake!"
If there were such a thing as Boardsailors ...
