No one (except perhaps oil companies?) likes high gasoline prices. But now price increases linked to the Katrina catastrophe are prompting some in Congress to recycle bad ideas and promote legislation that would weaken health and environmental protections, according to Clean Air Watch. That would mean dirtier air -- and more public health damage.

Equally bad, some want to rush something through to help oil companies without appropriate discussion of the issues. Clean Air Watch thinks it's worth taking a few minutes to explore the consequences of weakening key public health protections.
