"Once I began a new class in journalism by leaving the room with
my briefcase open on my desk. I came back and asked my students if
anyone had snooped into it. No one had.
"I imagine that by the end of the semester, some would have.
Why? Because gathering information to report or comment on is what
journalism is about. And given that responsibility, it is inevitable
that some will follow curiosity wherever it leads."
