Dr. Richard S. Bartley, a Virginia Beach optometrist who built
one of the mid-Atlantic region's largest optical chains, is
negotiating the sale of his company to an Australian concern,
according to a business associate.
Bartley told employees about the possible sale on April 28, said
Dr. John Kauffman, a Hampton optometrist who has worked with Bartley
for seven years.
Kauffman identified the potential buyer as Optical Prescription
Safety Makers, a Sydney-based, 260-store optical chain. The company
would take control of Richard S. Bartley and Associates Inc.'s 17
stores on July 1 if negotiations go as planned.
