Rita Hayworth, 68, a stunningly beautiful actress, dancer and
film industry "love goddess" who was a favorite of American
servicemen duringWorld War II, died of Alzheimer's disease May 14 at
her daughter's apartment in New York City.
Miss Hayworth appeared in 61 films in a movie career that spanned
four decades, but the height of her popularity came during the 1940s
and early 1950s when she played the title role in such movies as
"Gilda," "Miss Sadie Thompson" and "Salome."
She had auburn hair, brown eyes and the proverbial "peaches and
cream" complexion. She typically was cast as a woman who was sultry,
